This tomb, which is 300 years older than
that of Ramses III, has two levels. This is the
upper chamber, showing the azure-blue ceiling spangled with thousands upon
thousands of painted gold stars. The very simple paintings on the walls
use muted colors to depict almost stick-figure people and passages from
the Book of the Dead. The lower chamber holds the pharaoh's red granite
sarcophagus. The lid is propped open so you can see that the inside as
well as the outside is completely covered in detailed carvings.
