This mosaic covered the entire floor. Although
some parts have worn away, the size and complexity of the design are
astonishing. Only about a quarter of it is visible in this photo. It must
have taken many months of work by skilled artisans to create the design
and set all the pieces. Visible in the design are flowers, grapes,
twisting vines, and many different kinds of birds: peacocks, pheasants,
quail, pigeons, ducks, geese, roosters, and others. It was breathtaking.
