The album layout files were generated with Adobe
Photoshop Elements 2 (supplied with our scanner but useful for other things
too). The basic layout is fine, but because I wanted to maximize the
available photo and text areas, I edited the template HTML files heavily to
get the precise layout details I wanted (e.g. a much narrower banner at the
top of each page, arrows in consistent positions, and the copyright
notice at the lower right). I also edited the individual pages to add
text, and did some batch editing to tidy up the final results using shell
commands in Cygwin's UNIX-like "bash" shell environment for Windows.
All photographs in this album were taken with
a Canon PowerShot A95 5-megapixel digital camera. Maximum resolution and
minimum compression were always selected. Various photographic settings were
used, usually automatic. Although Photoshop Elements did not preserve
the EXIF data when
resizing the JPEG files linked to this album,
it is available in the higher-resolution versions that
may be available on request (depending on the desired purpose).
The Libyan stamps and the map of Tripoli's medina were scanned on
a Canon CanoScan 8400F.
Most images received some processing with one
or both of Microsoft Picture It! Premium 10 (which came with our computer)
or Adobe Photoshop Elements 2. At a minimum the images were cropped and
resized, and a number had
minor color corrections e.g. to remove excess blue in outdoor shots.
A few had people "corrected" out of them. :-)
