Full view of the Treasury in all its glory. Petra was established around the 6th century BC by the Nabateans, who were originally from southern Jordan/northern Arabia. Their kingdom was annexed by the Romans around 100 AD. Petra remained a major city for another two hundred years or so, until an earthquake in 363 AD caused enough damage that it was abandoned.
