20120528k_StMarksTomb Tomb of Saint Mark, Venice

The tomb contains a body believed to be that of Saint Mark, and is used for the high altar of the basilica. (The Pala d'Oro is on the other side of the rear panel.) The story goes that the relics were originally in Alexandria, Egypt, but were smuggled out by Venetian merchants in 828AD by hiding them inside pork products.
