Trajan's Column Triumphal column finished in AD113 to commemorate Trajan's victory in war. The bas relief carving forms a spiral. There is a staircase inside leading to the viewing platform, which is only open by special arrangement. The statue on top is actually St. Peter, courtesy of Pope Sixtus V in 1587, which replaced one of Trajan that had disappeared centuries before. |
