20120607e_RomePietroInVincoliSanSebastian San Sebastian, Rome

This seventh-century mosaic is part of a side altar in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli. Supposedly the creation of an altar to this particular saint (an intercessor for saving plague victims) in this particular church was the only way to end an episode of plague in the small town of Pavia in northern Italy. I could not find any information as to whether it worked.
