We arrived at Luxor station at 5:15am.
This view of the West Bank of the Nile was taken from the
Sheraton
hotel gardens just before dawn. The haze obscures low mountains where
the Valley of the Kings lies. Several hot-air balloons drifted by while the
Misr rep who met us was getting us checked in; it's a popular tourist
activity. He was able to get us into our rooms immediately, which gave us
a much-appreciated chance to rest a bit. Sightseeing began at 9 a.m., when
our guide and driver arrived to pick us up. Both days in Luxor were
half-days for sightseeing, with the very hot afternoons off to relax.
