The large and beautifully-carved columns
in the hypostyle hall. There has been considerable restoration. One of
the frustrations on this trip was the lack of information on how much
was still standing before restoration started, and how much was put
back together from fallen pieces. I did manage to find some nineteenth-century
paintings of Karnak and Luxor temples on the Web
which suggested that quite a remarkable amount of these structures
actually survived upright.
