The view looking back toward the entrance to

not like our desert in New Mexico; it is hot, dry, dusty, and almost
barren, with far fewer plants and animals. Most of Egypt gets less than
2 inches of rain per year on average; all the truly arable land is along
the banks of the Nile and the coast of the Mediterranean.
