The view looking back toward the entrance to the Valley of the Kings from the tomb of Ramses III. The desert there is not like our desert in New Mexico; it is hot, dry, dusty, and almost barren, with far fewer plants and animals. Most of Egypt gets less than 2 inches of rain per year on average; all the truly arable land is along the banks of the Nile and the coast of the Mediterranean.
